Admitted? Here’s what’s next.
Congratulations! You are about to begin one of the most exciting chapters in your life. Law is a demanding, noble profession offering the potential for a rewarding and fulfilling career. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to start your journey. To get started, here’s what you need to do:
1. Request official transcripts
Effective 2015 the American Bar Association amended its Standards to permit law schools to use a third-party credential assembly service to verify receipt of “official transcripts.”
If you have not already requested official transcripts be sent to the LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service from every educational institution attended since you graduated from high school, then you should do so as soon as possible. The Service will provide us with verification of receipt of all transcripts once they have been vetted. You can obtain additional information about requesting transcripts here.
Prior to matriculation at least one transcript must indicate the award of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution recognized by the Department of Education. If you will earn a degree after you requested a transcript initially, then you must request a new, updated transcript be sent to the Credential Assembly Service once the degree has been awarded.
In the event all transcripts are not received by the last day of Bridge Week, you may unable to begin school this year.

2. Disclose changes to application data
All students are under a continuous obligation to inform us of any changes to information contained in your law school application. Breach of this disclosure obligation could result in sanctions. This includes any changes of address, phone numbers, email addresses, arrests, financial obligations, tickets, you become party to a lawsuit, etc. Should something change, simply write a complete explanation and send it to us.
We cannot overemphasize the importance of this obligation. Fear of embarrassment or concerns about bar admission often motivate students to conceal personal information someone might not want to disclose. However, concealing this information in the face of a disclosure obligation is a form of misconduct raising its own concerns about your character and fitness for the practice of law. The board of bar examiners in the state where you plan to take the bar exam requires that you undergo a criminal and financial background check. You will have to explain any discrepancies between these search results, contents of your bar application, and information in your law school file. Failure to account for any inconsistencies may prevent you from bar admission. Therefore, failure to disclose information to us over the duration of your studies not only violates our Code of Conduct, but can jeopardize your eligibility to sit for state bar examinations.
3. Register for financial aid
You may register for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA). More complete information on our Financial Aid page. Be sure to select LMU as your school. The Federal School Code for LMU is 003502. LMU’s main campus is located in Harrogate, Tennessee, so notwithstanding the fact the law school is located in Knoxville, please use the code listed. Please register for financial aid as early as possible as this will determine when funds are disbursed.
Notification of financial aid will be sent to you LMU email address once the Office Financial Aid has received notification that your FAFSA has been processed by the U.S. Department of Education. Remember, you must sign your Master Promissory Note (if financial aid has been requested) electronically and complete your Entrance Counseling on the FAFSA website before financial aid can be awarded.
Per U.S. Department of Education regulations, financial aid will be disbursed approximately two-to-three weeks after school begins each semester.
4. Note important dates
Matriculating students must attend Orientation, Bridge Week, and the start of classes. Other important dates throughout the year are recorded on the academic calendar. The academic calendar is also available under “Current Students” and then “Academic Calendar.”
You should provide your own laptop computer. We will provide any software necessary for your course of study. We have on-site technical support should you have any issues.
5. Look for housing/sign up for utilities
If you do not already live in the Knoxville area, then you will need to find a place to live. Apartments closest to downtown and the University of Tennessee do not stay vacant for long. However, the law school is easily accessible from the interstate and rush-hour traffic is not very heavy. LMU LAW allows remote access to library resources, which is a valuable asset to students who commute longer distances. We also have plenty of small rooms where students can study to avoid going home between classes.

Where you decide to live will determine the utility company (or companies) providing the services you need. Remember, you will need electric, possibly gas, water, cable or satellite, and Internet access, and potentially a telephone company. Some options are listed on the City of Knoxville’s website. If you live in a townhome or condo, you will need to subscribe to a garbage service provider.
6. Keep communication flowing
We rely heavily on email at LMU LAW, and we ask that you check and read your email regularly.
